What is a face lift?

Facelift surgery lifts and tightens the skin of your face to restore your more youthful appearance. It is usually combined with a neck lift, which also lifts and tightens the neck’s skin.

Who should have a Face/neck lift?

If you are bothered by the signs of aging in your face and neck and want to tighten the relaxed skin, a facelift may be right for you. Time, the environment, and genetics all play a role in facial aging. And sadly, a skincare regimen and a healthy lifestyle alone just won’t fix it. You may need a facelift if you have:

• Loose or sagging skin of the face
• Jowling- This is when extra skin and fat begins to hang on either side of your chin
• Loose neck skin
• Neckbands

And while a lot can be done with non-invasive techniques such as Botox and fillers, there comes the point surgery could be your best option. The good news is that we can fix these problems with a Face and neck lift.

How is a Facelift done?

A Facelift is done all through well-hidden incisions in your hair and around your ears. The extra skin is removed and tightened, and the fat and muscles underneath are lifted up to their more youthful position. This is usually done with a neck lift.

How is a neck lift done?

A neck lift is done through the same incisions as a facelift, with the addition of a small incision under the chin. Extra skin and fat are removed and separated neck muscles causing bands are repaired.

What is a mini-facelift?

A mini facelift is similar to a regular facelift, but it uses a slightly smaller incision and does not correct the neck.

What should I do to prepare for a Face/neck lift?

We know you want the best results! We want them for you too. It is important to be in good health before a facelift surgery. You want to make sure you have your blood pressure well-controlled and let Dr. Mason know of any medications you are taking. Ensure you eat a balanced diet, get enough protein, and plenty of rest. This helps with healing. Do not smoke and avoid being around people who are smoking.

What happens at the initial consultation?

During the initial consultation, you will be asked about your medical history to ensure you are in good health and a candidate for facelift surgery. You will then discuss a facelift specifically and what your goals are. Dr. Mason will examine you and discuss the procedure for your face. Remember, there is no one-size-fits-all. Dr. Mason will customize a plan just for you.

What happens on the day of surgery?

Expect a mixture of anxiety and excitement. Both are normal. Remember, you’re doing something for yourself, and you should feel excited! You will have a scheduled arrival time on the day of surgery. The Surgery Center team will be expecting you and check you in upon arrival. Please do not eat the morning of surgery. Dr. Mason will come to talk to you before surgery and mark your skin where the incisions will be. These will be as discussed in your agreed-upon treatment plan. She will make sure there have been no changes. You will also meet your anesthesiologist. From there, you will go back to the operating room, and the anesthesiologist will put you to sleep. This is where you say goodbye to your old face and wake up to your incredible results! The surgery can take from 3 to 5 hours, depending on your customized surgery plan. After the surgery is completed, you’ll be taken to the recovery area, and once you are released, you will be ready and able to go home the same day. While you are taking narcotic pain medication, you will not drive, so you will need to arrange for someone to pick you up from the surgery center. This is a good time to switch your mindset to “let them look after me for a while,” as you will need your rest.

What will happen after surgery?

You will wake up with bandages on your face, and you will be swollen and bruised. Bandages are removed the next day. After about 2 weeks, most of the bruising will be gone, and by 6 weeks, most of the swelling will be gone. Keep in mind that your body will continue to improve as it heals for the next several months. This is the time for you to relax, heal, and take care of yourself.

Do’s & Don’ts for a Face/neck lift.

Do celebrate your decision. Do enjoy your refreshed face. Do allow your confidence to skyrocket! Do take time to heal and take care of yourself properly. Don’t push yourself too hard.

Can I have a Face/neck lift with another procedure?

Yes, facelifts are often combined with other procedures. Many women wish to have their eyelids rejuvenated or to replenish facial volume with fat transfer. Some women wish to have a brow lift. Injectables like Botox and fillers can be done while you are asleep. Talk to Dr. Mason to help make the surgical plan that is best for you.
