Male Plastic Surgery: Men Are Contributing to the Boom

Male Plastic Surgery: Men Are Contributing to the Boom

Many women across the country use various cosmetic surgery to reverse the signs of aging and increase self-esteem. But did you know that plastic surgery for men is increasing to make themselves look younger with a more masculine appearance?

Known by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons as a ‘daddy do-over,’ a recent report indicates there’s been a 30% increase in male cosmetic procedures in the last 20 years.

In the US, it’s estimated that 1.3 million procedures were performed on men in the last year.

Popular – Surgical And Non-Surgical Facials

The cosmetic procedures involve surgical and non-surgical body shaping and facial procedures that are done in one sitting. The ASPS report notes that the trend in men having plastic surgery is growing so fast that these procedures are a popular gift for Father’s Day.

While men don’t experience body changes from pregnancy, their lifestyles change, they may want to achieve a younger looking appearance, or simply preserve naturally attractive features.

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is popular among men, which can improve breathing problems and generally improve the aesthetics of the nose.

Another growing procedure for men is eyelid surgery, which removes excess skin above the eyes and can reduce the appearance of bags under the eyes. Eyelid surgery can make men look younger and enhance vision by removing excess skin that obstructs the eyes.

More Popular Cosmetic Procedures For Men

Liposuction grew by 5% in male patients from the year before, according to the ASPS report. And male breast reduction surgery ranked #4 with a 22% increase from 2000.

Men also wanted to address baldness, with a hair transplant or hair replacement surgery increasing by 18% in one year. They also had increased interest in dermal fillers for the face, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and microdermabrasion.

The report also found that men are embracing minimally invasive and nonsurgical procedures as women.

More detailed information about the most popular plastic surgeries for men, based on ASPS data, is below:

Liposuction

This is always one of the top-requested procedures, so it’s not a shock that it’s at the top for men. But it doesn’t mean men and women are having the same types of the procedure or wanting the same results.

Many surgeons say that men don’t want to be thin; they want to look defined. They like to get rid of the gut, but they also long to have obliques and masculine contours that make them look strong.

It’s not only about purging unwanted fat; men want to augment and enhance their muscles. Specifically, they long for a narrow waist, broad shoulders, and no hips.

Some men want to have fat removed from their bellies, and the fat moved below the chest muscles to make them look bigger. Liposuction coupled with fat transfer for muscle augmentation is growing more popular every year.

Gynecomastia Surgery

Also known as male breast reduction, is one of the most popular procedures for men over the years. One of the reasons is that only men have the problem. Gynecomastia is the term for enlarged breasts in men.

The procedure involves removing fatty tissue with liposuction and recontouring the area into a masculine look. This problem affects about 50% of males at birth and one out of four after 50.

Men want eyelid surgery because they think they look old and tired but aren’t interested in a facelift.

Many men first see signs of aging around the eyes and don’t like eye bags or excess eyelid skin that makes them look old.

Eyelid surgery is simple and can be done on the upper or lower lids. Recovery is fast, and scarring is almost invisible.

Men seem to particularly like this procedure because the results are subtle but striking. It’s one of those procedures that make people say you look different, but they don’t know why.

Neck Lifts

Men seeking improvement for loose skin in the neck area may find a neck lift surgery to be a suitable option. Individuals with concerns such as wrinkles, jowls, or excess fat in that region may also consider this procedure.

Dermal Fillers

Not all men who want work done want surgery. That’s why dermal fillers are so popular with men because they can address some of the same signs of aging. Hyaluronic fillers such as Juvederm are used to improve lost volume in the cheeks. Other fillers are popular for enhancing the jawline.

Men often ask for fillers along the jawline more than women. Fillers help with jowls because once they start to appear, fillers can make them disappear without surgery. Men see a strong jawline and sharp chin as manly, so using fillers to prevent sagging skin is popular.
